WorldFlight 2015 - "Watch The Dot!"

Postby Edward Watson » Tue Nov 12, 2013 7:00 am

Planning for Operation "Watch The Dot" (commonly referred to as WorldFlight2015) has already started..
At this point in time I am seeking members who are thinking about coming to Adelaide in 2015 to join the mailing list, so I may keep you up to date with all the correspondence with the organisers and the sim upgrades and planning.

If you would like to receive the email updates (possibly with the intention of attending) then add your Nbl number (not your email address, as this is a public forum) and I will add you to the mailing list.

WorldFlight is generally held in the 1st week of November (just don't book any tickets until I have firm dates!).

This is not a firm commitment for members to attend.. that will happen in the last quarter of 2014.

During the 2013 event we learnt some valuable lessons and how to improve so the pilots have a better learning experience in the sim, and as Ray experienced in our 2013 event.. you don't need Autopilot ILS, he succeeded in landing the sim hand flown from FL380 to "kiss the Runway"..

All we kept saying was "Watch The Dot!"...

If you have reservations about coming or the experience, just ask any of the members that attended the 2013 event!

Confirmed so Far:

1. Norbert Finger (NSW, Australia)

2. Tony Forrest (NSW, Australia)

3. Roger Eve (UK)

4. Ray Lang (NZ)

5. Peter Watson (SA, Australia)

6. Ross Goodall (NZ)

7. Mark Newby (USA)

8. Martin Pryde (QLD, Australia)

9.

10.

11.

12. Ed Watson (SA, Australia) (I'll for go my position if we get 12 or more volunteers, as I can fly the sim anytime)

hmmm... took "watch the dot" to a new level..
A friend of mine came over for a fly on Saturday night.. a short Adelaide to Melbourne flight..
He has flown the sim before and is becoming familiar with the systems.. (soon to be a Australian Noble Member once he gains a little more experience with FS!).

So I worked with him through the checklists.. he took off.. climbed to FL380.. maintained all the flight to Melbourne, landed on ILS16 Arbey4A arrival.. and taxied to the terminal..
While in VNAV/LNAV mode.. but NOT with CMD engaged!.. Hand flown maintaining Altitude and navigation!..

Now thinking a new rule in WF2015.. Hand fly only for flights under 350Nm.
